Last Sunday in Abu Dhabi, the Williams Formula One team capped their best season in more than a decade with their first double-podium finish since 2005.
With Felipe Massa hunting down Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in the final laps, it looked like Williams might even have enough pace for their first victory since early in 2012, but, in the end, Massa and his teammate Valtteri Bottas settled for second and third.
The Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi is hosting the final race of the 2014 Formula One season this weekend. While Mercedes have already locked up the constructors’ title, the drivers’ championship will be decided in the desert, with Lewis Hamilton having the inside line on Nico Rosberg to claim the title.
On Sunday morning, I finally got to sleep in a bit, but I did have an interview scheduled with Simona de Silvestro, who was training with the Sauber team in the hopes of securing a race seat for 2015 (although that plan has since fallen through).
On October 11, Jolyon Palmer won the GP2 feature race at the Sochi Autodrom, clinching the 2014 GP2 title. Palmer is the first British driver to win the series since current Formula One championship leader Lewis Hamilton did it in 2006.
I’m still catching up with the blog after being away in Austin. Here are my preview and reaction articles from the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Two weeks ago, I was in Austin to cover the U.S. Grand Prix for Bleacher Report. I took a ride with Sebastian Vettel in the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge concept car, interviewed Daniel Ricciardo, Mario Andretti and Helmut Marko, and saw a wild armadillo! Full report to follow (I guess after I finish my Canadian Grand Prix entry), but in the meantime, here are the stories I filed from Texas.
